STYLE DOSSIER
/
MARISA ZUPAN

[Madame President] -- Marisa may have the face of the girl next door, and well perhaps she is. But don't underestimate this beauty when it comes to hanging with the boys. Zupan hangs with the best of them and blogs all about it on her menswear blog, The Significant Other. I for one am intrigued with the thought of women taking their spin on menswear. Of course we have all fallen into the comfort of dressing in our boyfriend's jeans, sweaters, watches, button-downs, etc. Practically every essential piece in our closet as women now has a 'boyfriend' counterpart; but this is not what I am talking about here. This goes deeper than you latest pair of ripped and cuffed baggy jeans. This incorporates the art of getting dressed - 'bespoke intelligence' if you will.

It’s the style of dressing that a growing percentage of men take rather seriously.  As seriously as you may take banishing kitten heels from your wardrobe or any other of the fashion rules you swear and live by. What a terrific spin for the girl who has a little tomboy in her and wants to separate herself from the norm. I mean, can you see yourself wearing a tie? What about monk straps, fedoras, button-downs, tweeds? No? Well it's not for everyone. But for me, women dressing like men and successfully pinning the look? Sold, like the Russ W. Myers realty sign hanging in Zupan's living room (which I must add she found on the street by the way, gah!). And for women like Marisa, who dedicate the time and effort it takes to learn the art and appreciate a gentleman's sprezzatura when she sees it - wait, did I use that right? Probably not. However, that's not my field. My field would be introducing you to amazingly cool and stylish people like Marisa and all of your past faves.

Over an eclectic mix of jazzy and enchanting bossa nova tunes, Marisa gives some insight into her future plans regarding style her style interests. While she is quite obviously into menswear - hence the brief, informative session regarding the subject above, she states that "she is embracing how her new position at womenswear label, Maiyet is expanding her sartorial sensibilities". This aside, Zupan has affirmed that she will be getting back into the swing of things on The Significant Other, bringing you the latest news, products, events and all things related to the fabulous world of menswear.
